Mixed in Melbourne during a period of heavy smoke haze from fires burning across the eastern coast, following a sleepless new year period on my family’s property in East Gippsland. Bushfires got close this year, but for us at least, the wind change came at the right time, and from the right direction. On Ash Wednesday in 1983, for us at least, the wind change came at the wrong time, and from the wrong direction. Back then, we lost our house, and everything in it.
As I put this mix together I was thinking about the weird beauty in letting go of things; of emotionally charged objects.

Also featuring my own field recordings from around Melbourne, the usual bush cacophony. The silence of the bush after fire frightens me more than the smoke.
