I started out in January 2023, alongside my practice as a poet, performer and (currently) PhD researcher.
I DJ at clubs, events, weddings, festivals and wherever as Idiorhythmia. The name comes from Roland Barthes' idea of 'idiorhythmy', which describes, "a specific form of living together in a community, wherein everyone is able to retain their own rhythm and live according to their own speed" (read more about this here).
For me, DJing brings us together as we make a space of 'collective effervescence' on the dancefloor, moving both individually and as one.
Gathering and mixing music is a way for me to do that, while also having time by myself and with music. It's about togetherness and individuality co-existing, joyfully.
I play bouncy, often very queer house, tech-house, bass-house, latinx and Afro house, breakbeat, pop, a little sprinkling of garage, DnB - and whatever I think is good and will get folks dancing.
