First got my hands on 2 turntables in 1991 aged 18, then saw the light on Technics 1210s ( somebody else's!! ) in 1994!!! Firstly into 80's early house and hip hop, I spent a huge proportion of my wages on vinyl, but my mind was blown listening to Paul "Trouble" Anderson and Bobby & Steve on Kiss FM in the early 1990's. My first visit to their club Garage City seeing The Reese Project warming up live acapella changed my life..... Soulful vocals, thumping 4/4 beat and a cool crowd, never looked back..... Perfect.
Latterly I explored early 70's funk, disco and rare groove, 80's soul funk, jazz funk, electronica, and discovered all this music shares it's 4/4 DNA with early house and the sampled hip hop. Though my passion lies with 80's and 90's house, think Masters At Work, I love almost anything with a funky groove driving it, soulful vocals on top and a cool vibe running through it. And still pleased to find in the sea of modern cheese still people are making fantastic music. X
