Nice one Ed ... Yeah Jeremy Sylvester is a hugely important part of the garage scene in the UK, and to this day it still amazes me how many different names he recorded under!! ... Not only prolific, but his tunes have always been of the highest quality ... Glad you enjoyed this bass heavy excursion, and I fully agree there should be more sets like this with heavy basslines ... There are plenty of deep and funky sets to be found on Mixcloud, but there is a bit of a void when it comes to this classic speed garage sound ... Much like yourself, I was a huge fan of speed garage and UKG in the late 90's, and many of the tracks in this set bring back that 90's vibe, which is always a good thing!! ... Jeremy Sylvester is a UKG machine, and one of my favourite producers of all time, not just from the UK, but globally ... He's a master at creating that deep, moody, urban UK vibe, and his back catalogue is nothing short of incredible ... A very important and influential artist on the UK scene ... So it looks like this show really does have your quadruple like! 😃😃 ... It must have been an enjoyable listen if it made its way into so many of your playlists, so a huge thank you, and I'm glad you enjoyed it so much ... From hard pressed to impressed, you were never left depressed after the play button was pressed!!! 😂😂 ... Indeed, when compiling this session I was restricting myself to producers from Birmingham, which sure does have plenty of talent, but it's much more of a challenge than it would be to make a set of music from either London or New York, which are both much bigger cities with much bigger populations and a lot more producers to choose from ... but I do like a challenge, and I enjoyed digging out tracks for this session ... Maybe you can't name any producers from Birmingham UK, but you might know some from Birmingham Alabama 😉 ... In fact I'm sure the city in Alabama has plenty of talent, as there is an abundance of talent in every corner of the world these days ... not just in the famous hotspots like NYC, London, Paris, Berlin, Chicago, Tokyo etc ... but the lesser known cities and towns are definitely doing their thing, and contributing bucketloads of talent to the musical landscape ... Haha yeah the Inspector had me stuck behind an old piano for two months 😂😂 ... He wouldn't let me eat anything other than pasta, spaghetti and pizza, so I'm full Italian now, just like him 😅 ... He makes all his prisoners wear a Sampdoria shirt ... So don't mess with the Inspector!!!! ... Maybe it's your turn next eh Ste 😉 ... You never know who is next on his list!! 😂😂 ... Glad you enjoyed this set mate ... it did take more effort to assemble all the necessary ingredients, at least to the quality I wanted, anyway ... Yeah that last 15 to 20 minutes was like going back to 1997 again with those big and bold basslines 😄 ... Great to hear producers bringing back that old speed garage vibe with a fresh perspective ... Haha mate there will be no such "Skeg Ska" or "Wigan Waltz" session from me ... You'll be waiting a very long time for those!! ... But if you wanna have a crack at making them yourself, then I'm all ears ... As I said to Raw, Manchester and Glasgow have been on my list from day one, without any shred of doubt ... and if those ones are well received, I might extend the series and dig out some tracks from Liverpool, Sheffield, Bristol, Brighton etc ... Honestly I could go on and on, but it takes a lot of excavation work, so to speak ... Not sure when I will do the Manchester session, but I suppose I'd better not leave it too long, or Tim will be disappointed ... and he already suffers enough disappointment as it is ... being a United fan 😂😂 ... Cheers Tim! ... It's good to be back in action again after a long break! ... It was definitely more challenging putting this set together, as the resources are much more limited when you're concentrating strictly on artists from a single city ... but even though it was more challenging, I never doubted that I'd be able to pull it off!! ... "Spiral" is a gem, and definitely has that speed garage vibe, and "Clutch" is a great track with that rolling bass!! ... Those Jeremy Sylvester tracks were top notch too, and I've been a huge fan of his work since the late 90's, especially his tracks under the alias "FreakDa Funk", which I fondly remember being big on pirate radio back in the day ... Jeremy Sylvester is often considered the "G.O.D." of UK Garage, and I think that sentiment holds a lot of weight. His back catalogue is truly exceptional, although sadly he has never been a household name in the same way as Artful Dodger and MJ Cole ... But he is one of my favourite producers of all time ... up there with Kerri Chandler!!! ... Oh yeah, the last 20 minutes of this mix was an intense, bass heavy excursion into that good old speed garage sound!!! ... You could quite easily be forgiven for thinking that all the tracks in the last 20 minutes were produced in 1997, but they're all fairly recent tracks from the last couple of years or so ... incredible how that old 1997 speed garage vibe has been emulated to perfection!!! ... Thanks again for tuning in mate, and I'm really happy you enjoyed this session. It was a lot of fun doing this one, especially with a lot of these tracks bringing back much of that 90's flavour we all miss!! ...... I'm looking forward to doing the Manchester set at some point, although I won't rush it!! ...
