Trying to condense 60 years here. I’m from Leicester UK and still based here.
Ever since the late 1960s, I’ve loved music, Whilst trying to find my musical ear in from 1975 onwards with Funk, Soul, Punk, Jazz, Rock n Roll and Reggae being part of a soundtrack, my elder sister was bringing home disco records.
This music of now primary, gravitating me myself into the West Indian community, with its rich heritage.
Inspired fully by Nottingham’s Jonathan and the north West’s Colin Curtis, I wanted to emulate those DJs. We forged Classic Groove, from the reggae soundsystem base of Assassin HiFi in 1984.
Needless to say, we created a bit of a movement, for the next 10 years or so. Then in the 90s, Finding new avenues through the burgeoning legendary Southport Weekender, the meeting and forging lifelong friends, A couple of bereavements, in my fifties, pulled me back into something comforting and safe.I continue to grow my musical foundation and focus on new purchases for my vinyl collection.
