New York City, United States
Retro disco nights at most clubs today play seem to play the same songs on any given night that most people associate with the word “ disco". The top 40 songs from Donna Summer , The Weather Girls, Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross etc are almost always rolled out, and while I love those artists and those songs, disco was so much more and deeper than that. Starting around 1970 before the term “ disco” was coined when it was simply the black music of its day and progressing through the 70s and well into the mid 80s disco became the sound of a generation and was the one and only music that has ever united people of all races , ages ,creeds, sexual identities and whatever other group a person may identify with. It was truly inclusive. So here are some of the tunes that I’d love to hear when I go out, songs that set the dance floors of New York and the world on fire. Enjoy.
