Fueled by a summer bash in the late '70s where my sister brought in a DJ crew, I was captivated by their custom-built equipment and seamless beats. Watching them electrify the crowd sparked an unrelenting passion within me to become a DJ. I devoured every mixed set on the radio, tuning into the likes of 92 KTU and 98.7 Kiss FM's Master Mix, with WBLS's midday mix being a staple. Legendary DJs like Jellybean Benitez, Shep Pettibone, and Tony Humphries inspired me to hone my craft. Music became my sanctuary, a way to maintain my sanity and connect with others. Playing to a packed floor is exhilarating, and I perform as if the crowd is right there with me, moving to the rhythm. The nickname GoJay, given by a little one who couldn't pronounce my name, Jose.
