My best friend introduced me to house music. He took me to the most outlandish parties he could find. Attitude and cheek was just a part of the culture and a part of the party. We walked in as misfits and when we walked out we were still misfits, but completely and utterly unapologetic about it. I’m pretty sure that’s why he started going and i’m certain that’s why we never stopped. We just wanted to have fun but those parties taught us a type of resilience we had never known.
That is what this music represents. Sassy soundbites, brash humour and a pounding beat is just the face of it. Sure, it's a good combo but there is a purpose and there is a message. A water-off-a-duck’s-back attitude can get you through near enough anything and what’s better at eliciting that than a thumpin bassline and a fierce groove.
