I've been thinking...
by Bailey
...I want to say thank you for supporting me by doing themed mixes that you really want to hear. Maybe something you think hasn't been done before. This is where you take over. You choose the tracks, I'll do the mix. Let's make it a 30 minute mix.
Try to think of D&B producers, record labels, singers etc. that haven't had a body of their work put in a mix before.
For example DRS or MC Fats. They've had an abundance of releases on many labels yet I can't remember seeing anyone put together a mix of some of their greatest work. How about classic Jungle label Dee Jay Recordings or Marcus Intalex's 'Soul:r'? Has anyone done a best of by these labels? Maybe you just want to hear a selection of your favourites in the mix
Let me know your thoughts and let's see what we can do together.

Lifting spirits 95 era / luckyspin + deejay recordings back catalog 94-95. Big up Bailey!
I did an ABC's of DNB mix where I chose tracks that worked well together AND were in order by producer name. This was fun and came out really good. https://www.mixcloud.com/jts412/jts-abcs-of-dnb-mix-2018-01-25/
The 'Most Chilled' mix is up! https://www.mixcloud.com/BaileyIntabeats/most-chilled-mix-noughties-db/

UPDATE: I've just finished recording the 'Most Chilled (Noughties D&B)' mix. I'll upload it tomorrow at around 3pm (UK time). Keep an eye out for it. I'm well happy that we could do this together. Thank you again for your input.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions. I've been digging out a lot of tunes to compile the 'Most Chilled D&B Mix'. It looks like it's going to be a two part mix. One rooted in the noughties and one from the Jungle era. I'm going to try and get the noughties version done this week. Watch this space...
I'd love best extremely unknown tunes / hidden gems.
I know it's probably been done in some form before. But I'd love to hear your take on a Bristol-based DnB mix. Especially with some of the dubs I'm SURE you have lurking haha.
Oh yes. There are definitely some great Bristol dubs that never came out
I love the idea of best B sides. Also, what about a mix of tracks from obscure labels?
It'll take a lot of digging but I'm up for it
hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Think
I've started looking into tracks for the 'most chilled' mix. I've found some great tunes. I'm open to suggestions though. Have you got any?
Technimatic - Perseverance
It's not DNB but I know you can find a place for Dom HZ - Without You.
XRS Land - Secrets of the Floating Island
PFM mix of The Sea
I'd be interested in hearing a mix based on certain formal elements such as, vocal samples from films or use of specific instruments that are unusual for DnB.
Basically the things behind the sound that makes people think "Why do I know this even though I've never heard this track before" or "I've never heard this done like that. "
That's a deep one Mike. I'll have to do some serious digging. Do you have any examples of what you mean?
Bailey, Thanks for your reply.
The first sample that comes to mind is the on at the start of Original Nuttah from Goodfella's . There are many, many more out there. I'm also thinking beyond just film Let's Roll by Johnny L comes to mind with the GW Bush vocal relating to post 9/11 media response. Or even how ubiquitous Some Samples from Jimmy Castor are like "What were gonna do right here is go back, way back. Back in to time" (High Contrast Remix of Paupa New Guinea by FSOL)
My original comment is rooted in something similar to what was done for the 20th anniversary of DJ shadow's Entroducing, where, (I believe DJ Atom on an episode of Solid Steel) they deconstructed the root of many of the samples used in that album and told that story of inspiration and construction of the music. When I'm listening to podcasts, I like hearing the ideas behind why songs were created and where and why certain samples inspired producers is a tangible access point to that discussion.
The second side of my comment is that I find that many producers use similar instrumentation. I remember listening to D Kay's album individual soul and at the time It really opened my ears to a different take on the typical D'n'B formula. This album, in particular, made me think about the sounds (Or instruments) I don't tend to hear like Cello's or Harmonica, Tabla etc.
Some people that come to mind for this out are EZ Rollers, Seba and Paradox , LTJ Bukem, Fracture and Neptune etc. I realize that these references all lean towards the melodic side of things but I don't mean to limit it to that, it's just where most of my reference points are.
I hope that helps clarify my original comment.
Can I step in here and make a claim to fame which was it was my suggestion that you did that unreleased calibre mix way back when on the 1xtra message boards! was a great mix at the time! Back then I was the Klay Pigeon !
I really enjoyed a dj set you did at swerve years back where you played a few of the original tracks that big samples came from - like Mr Majestic / Money Money Money - a mix of different tempo tunes that produced classic dnb samples would be ace...
Thank for the great suggestion back in the day Wil. I could probably do another one too. Calibre's work rate is insane.
I do have a number of D&B vs original tracks stocked up as it goes. I'll definitely keep that one in mind.
Another unreleased Calibre mix ALWAYS welcome!
Would love to hear the DNB vs originals...
Heavily Agree with Archive01 🧠🔫
Few ideas: 90's b-side jungle, late 90's b-side techstep, a mix made of tracks from only one region (e.g. north america, Eastern Europe, etc.)
There are some really good ideas here.
Here's what we have:
1. CLASSIC JUMP UP MIX
2. MOST CHILLED D&B MIX
3. BEST B-SIDES
4. MORE UNRELEASED DUBPLATES
5. UNSIGNED ARTISTS
6. D&B'S NASTIEST BASSLINES
Can we gree on which one I should do first?
Definately liking the most chilled, B sides and dub plate mix ideas
Most chilled 😃👍🏻👍🏻
defo #5 dubs .or never released track .
Best b sides will be a wicked mix! Not sure you’ll get it down to 30mins though
You know one that I never see, how about a classic jump-up mix? Such a big part of the scene, with some of the biggest tunes back in the day, but they all seem to have fallen out of favor over time with all the remix and retro sets. Aphrodite, Urban Takeover, Joker, Fresh Kutt, Congo Natty, whatever... There must still be some gems in there that still hold up.
Great idea. Want to suggest any tracks you think definitely need to bee in the mix?
Bit late but how about a mix of the most chilled out DnB you can fined?
It would be interesting to see what you can dig out of the crates.
Ooh! Quite a challenge. I'm up for that though. Can you give me examples of something that would work well?
Hey Bailey, it would be great to hear a mix of B-sides that we’re overshadowed by the A-side bangers. A lot of quality out there there never got a proper listen by many. Thanks for the great sets over the years as well.
Absolutely! That's what I used to play when I was coming through. I didn't have dubplates. So much great music gets overlooked.
sry for txting this post here, but greetings from holland Rotterdam , love ur work for decades now .
happy holidays and have a great new year :)
No problem at all. It's nice of you to take time out to share those kind words. It's definitely appreciated, Thank you :)
Definitely down for the 30 min mix brudda
Mix aload of conceete SMASHING basslines and im in
More of your dub plate series you did when your were on 1xtra would be good. I still listen to the Calibre and dark ones.
Good idea. I still have lots that haven't been heard
How about 30 minutes of unsigned artists? :)
Hmmmm. I like this
Yes yes...
Yes, bless
