CORTINA - I’d been driving around Italy for a couple of weeks trying to find inspiration for a new mix. My immediate thought was to lay down some old school disco. Firstly, I love disco. Secondly, you can’t travel around Italy without thinking about the disco legend himself, John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever. I’d also just purchased a leather jacket so I was definitely ready to channel some Tony Monero.
By the time I got the opportunity to hit record, we were staying in Cortina. It was close to zero degrees, we were a long way from the city and, the landscape had become this jagged otherworldly mass of rocks and cliff faces. This definitely wasn’t the inspiration for an upbeat disco mix. Instead I wanted to play something a bit heavier. Big tunes, big drops. Some melodic house and techno.
Afterlife, the record label fronted by the Italian duo Tale of Us is exactly what I needed to to draw influence from to build the crate I used for this mix.
