Ummah - Web definitions
o Ummah (أمة) is an Arabic word meaning "community" or "nation". It is commonly used to mean either the collective nation of states, or (in the context of pan-Arabism) the whole Arab world. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ummah )
o A religious community, usually referring to an Islamic one. ( carm.org/islamic-terms )
o (pl. umam) : nation or community. This was a highly emotive word in early Islamic history in the time of the Prophet, and remains so among the Arabs today. ( majalla.org/souaiaia/ethics/dictionary/index.htm )
o The global community of muslims. It can also mean the generation of a particular Prophet, which includes the non-believers. Thus the term may be further defined as the “believing” or “non-believing” ummah. ( imuslim.tv/glossary/ )
It is also similar (in written English, at least) to the word for ‘kiss’ in Malaysian (someone will know the specific language/dialect).
Two words, connecting two ideas of closeness and togetherness..
