Born in London in 1955, he grew up with a passion for science and a curious mind. After completing his undergraduate studies at Oxford University, he went on to earn his PhD from Cambridge University in 1980.

Throughout his career, Professor Smith has made significant contributions to our understanding of the universe, particularly in the areas of black holes and dark matter.
