California-based DJ Xiola has been actively involved in the U.S. goth & dark underground since the 1980s. Now as DJ and promoter as of the last ten years she remains dedicated to preserving and promoting the spirit and sound of classic goth and deathrock. Xiola has made frequent guest appearances at concerts, club nights, and festivals on the west coast, and in her setlists continues to emphasize the interwoven past, present, and future of gothic music. In 2012 Xiola carved out a niche in the Bay Area scene when she founded her popular Club Requiem (San Francisco), the first safe space goth night in San Francisco that explicitly welcomed LGBTQ and BIPOC patrons and enforced a ’No Hate/Violence/Harrassment policy. At Requiem Xiola and her DJs mixed classic tunes alongside new releases from breakout gothic, deathrock and postpunk acts. New artists given their US dancefloor debuts at Club Requiem included She Past Away, Red Sun Revival, and Chaos Bleak, while Requiem also hosted exclusive
