walking past the garden
🍊 "walking past the garden of hesperides" is an invitation to walk and listen to sounds and stories in relation to Körnerpark and beyond. christina ertl-shirley and gretchen blegen have created an audio walk looking into the histories of the Orangerie and Glass Houses, past their located narratives in European colonial history and back out at the garden and its peripheries. As a continuation of the 2018 sound installation The Garden of Hesperides, the two artists revisit a theme that is very much about containing the outside inside and try to reverse the gaze, asking us to listen attentively to the inside outside – this time in passing and well beyond any possible desired containment.
Many thanks to Derek Jarman and his garden in Dungeness for the inspiration, Jens Karsten for the background information on Körnerpark and Baptiste Moulin for the wonderful text recordings.
