MY LOVE OF SOUL BEGAN THE FIRST TIME I LISTENED TO GREG EDWARDS BEST DISCO IN TOWN ON CAPITAL RADIO. The sound of funk and whistles blew me away. Needing to hear more of this fantastic music I started to scan the airwaves and found JFM Radio. Soul music all day Sundays became a ritual of being up in my bedroom with my finger on the pause button ready to record the latest soul music, I was only 13 at this time. My first 12’’ was War- You Got the power & my first album was Slipstream Best of British Jazz Funk. A year later I was off to the Ilford Town Hall where the Late Froggy was on the decks.
My first DJing experience was with a borrowed pair of Garrard decks in a hall full of 16-year-olds. I did a few of these in my final year at school. After leaving School the weekends were all about finding bars & clubs that had soul on offer. This was becoming harder as the House Scene was starting to arrive, DJing while watching my mates have fun wasn’t for me at this stage so I just enjoyed
