Join us as we journey through the musical life of jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, a pioneer in both the free jazz movements of the late 1950’s and one of the first to integrate “world” music in the 1970’s. For the thursday night feature we’ll start with his now classic jazz albums with Ornette Coleman and continue through his work with Archie Sheep, Albert Ayler, and John Coltrane. We’ll end by featuring this musical genius’s collaborations with international musicians including Gato Barbieri and Codona where he worked to incorporate sitars, tablas, and cuicas into a jazz sound.
