The Union Choir is a super-new project from a host of respected local musicians. Masterminded by Jon Melvin and Grant Lagan plus anyone else they can harass into joining in, the band have recently finished recording with Neil Bassett at Room3 in Sunderland. The fruits of those sessions are exciting to say the least – dark, eerie soundscapes merge with sombre vocals and some stunning lyrics. A must for fans of The National. The band are currently working on an album and no live dates are yet organised, but Jon’s quietly optimistic for the band’s future, “The songs are pretty much all written now in rough form but the fun of it has been going in with an outline and seeing what comes out of the other end.” Stay tuned for more info! - NARC
