When Rai goes to her Aunt Ricci's home next to Red Ruby Lake for the summer her parent's insist she gets herself her first job while she's there but she is determined to nothing of the sort.
Not even 24 hours go by when the job finds her -at The Red Ruby Hotel. It's a previously decrypted building on the top of the cliff that overlooks the lake and it used to cater to the very rich - until it foreclosed.
A short man by the name of Mr. Bong owns the newly opened hotel but he hasn't done a lot to update, or clean, the inner sanctum of the Hotel. He hires her when she is playing fetch with Zorro, her black and white spaniel and gives her very little direction other than the show up and run the front desk.
And run the front desk she does - meeting and showing to their rooms a plethora of odds and ends patrons, none of which she ever sees leave.
