I was born in Brooklyn and grew up in Queens, NY. If you were a DJ in Queens when I was, most likely you played all party genres. What is now called "Open Format" is pretty much what you did back then in my neighborhood. Playing block parties, school dances, sweet 16's, and high school parties, I'd put my own twist on whatever music I loved, so house, hip hop, dancehall, techno, and freestyle it was. Then after spending time at legendary NYC clubs I married house music. The marathon sets of DJ's like Corbett, Danny Tenaglia, and Junior Vasquez moved me the most and taught me about programming and taking people on a journey. Since then I'm still playing house and open format but I also started spinning a number of other genres under different aliases. Whatever style I'm playing I always nod back to my early days of watching those DJ's and try taking people on a ride through the milky way. In the words of the great composer Sun Ra, "Space is the Place."
