Interaction Design Pontifications
The Hammer and The Sponge is a reference and expansion to Abraham Maslow’s quote, “I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
As Interaction Designers, we approach a plethora of problems, and we need a complementary set of tools to find the possible solutions.
Critical inquiry is one such tool, and this site is intended as a record of our inquiry into design: What is it? What does it mean to practice design? How does one learn to design? What does it mean to be a designer?
These are lofty questions, and it is not our goal to offer definitive answers to them. We defy anyone to do so. Instead, we’ll use them to frame explorations, adventures, and play in the metaphysical (and physical).
We’ll recount our growth as designers, stumble our way through nascent theories, and explicate our practical experience.
