I've been DJing in and around Oldenburg, Germany since the late 1990s, starting out in the local Goa and Psytrance scene. Back then we ran monthly parties at the Alhambra under names like Klangquelle, brought in guest DJs and finally opened a record shop, Intravinyl, along the way. That shop opened my mind to electronic music across all genres.
What has stayed with me from those years is the pulse: that repetitive, hypnotic forward pull that carries a track without it having to prove anything. These days I rarely find it under the old label, psytrance; I'm looking for deep-diving sounds — sometimes hypnotic, sometimes melodic, maybe a little bizarre or rough. Now I play techno, minimal and house, with an ear trained in a different scene — you can hear it in how long I let a groove breathe.
