id="article-body" class="row" section="article-body"> Disney has called Disney Plus the future of the company. It's the entertainment giant's streaming service for almost everything it's ever created or bought, taking on Netflix and an emerging crop of rivals like Apple TV Plus and HBO Max. And perhaps best of all, Disney Plus has brought us Baby Yoda.
Disney Plus officially launched Nov. 12. It costs $7 a month in the US, or $70 if you prepay for a full year. The monthly rate is half the price of HBO Now and the forthcoming HBO Max. It's also a discount compared with Netflix's cheapest tier at $9 a month. Disney also struck a deal with Verizon to give the carrier's unlimited wireless customers a year free.
Despite glitches and service outages on day one, the launch was a big success for signups. In little more than a day, Disney Plus registered more than 10 million people, the company said. By comparison, HBO Now took nearly three years to reach about 5 million subscribers.
