The Timelines theme was inspired by New Day, lead track of the mixtape by Stonie Blue. After being gifted an advanced copy of the new BIY DIY EP, I found myself playing the title track on a loop. It's at track so intimately authentic to the artist, it feels like a personally remixed mantra. The definition of soul. (It also immediately brought to mind the Marshall Jefferson classic Time Marches On) Then just days later, I received the Wasafiri remix EP of "Future Step" (feat. mixes by Ben Hixon and Greg Float) and the universe seemed have predetermined the ethos for approaching this set. Tracks range from 1981 to 2025 with a heavy nod to Chicago, but with the single intention of conjuring strength and optimism in the face of the politics of right now in the United States, February 2025.
