»Aura Coffee Company«

by Jerónimo Gutiérrez Balanta

The audio essay constitutes an exploration and reflection on the life of Jerónimo’s great-aunt Aura, who worked in the Merino coffee factory during the 1960s. Drawing on her oral traditions and narratives surrounding coffee, the work develops a sound-based essayistic practice that mobilizes perspectives from sonic philosophy to interrogate processes of silencing, the defiance of familial narratives, and the role of sound within artistic practice as a modality of memory-making.
