Something Black is a vinyl snob. An Afrobeat and Afrodisco junkie. Afrobeat is a combination of traditional West Africa music, jazz, highlife, funk, and chanted vocals, fused with percussion and vocal styles, popularised in the 1970s. Its main creator was the Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and bandleader Fela Kuti, who gave it its name. Afrodisco is common in the Southern Africa with its uptempo boogie tracks such hits of Margaret Singana, Mariam Makeba and Hugh Masekela.
