On the age of 5 Shapez started to play drums and when he was about 8 years old he started to play the piano as well which got him mainly interested in all types of music. At the age of 12 when drum & bass started to come up Shapez immediately was hooked on to these fast uptempo breakbeats, also because of listening to hip hop for some years and his main interest in creating music the connection was easily made.
Shapez started to buy records because his favorite music was not really available on Compact Disc and he wanted to listen to this music at home. Visiting parties allover Holland and abroad listening with a critical ear to other dj's his interest in spinning tunes himself grew more and more.Shapez bought 2 Soundlab belt-drive turntables and a crappy mixer to give it a shot himself, since then things really went fast for him as he was mixing tunes on a daily base for several hours his obsession for drum&bass became even bigger.
