Fragments of Influence: Sounds, Memory, and a new Edit
Cold Drive, C-Lekktor - As you die (C-Lekktor remix)
This is the second time I’ve talked about a track that touches on the Green River Killer, but it’s not something I focus on all the time—just one of those subjects that naturally finds its way into my work. Growing up in Seattle in the ‘70s and ‘80s, it was impossible to ignore. Ted Bundy and the Green River Killer weren’t just news stories; they were part of everyday life. The Green River Killer’s crimes stretched on for years before his arrest, and I even lived in Renton, one of the places tied to both him and Bundy. That history sticks with you, and sometimes it comes through in unexpected ways.
This edit of Cold Drive - As You Die (C-Liekktor remix) is something I originally put together six or seven years ago, but I never officially posted it until now. It’s a track I’ve played out at shows, especially in Seattle, where its themes resonate more. It was never meant as an official release—just something that felt right to create.
For this edit, I pulled samples from a few different places, including an adult movie and It’s a Good Life, a 1961 episode of The Twilight Zone. I grew up watching a lot of reruns from that era and into the 70s and 80s—Star Trek, MASH*, Mork and Mindy, The Bob Newhart Show—and something about those older shows stuck with me. Even the lighthearted ones had an eerie quality at times, maybe because I was too young to fully understand them or because of the way they were filmed. Either way, those influences creep into my work in subtle ways.
Now that this edit is finally up on my Mixcloud, it’s nice to give it a place beyond the sets where I’ve played it. Some of the sampling choices might raise questions, but for me, they’re just another way of processing and reshaping the things that have lingered over the years.
