London, United Kingdom
Sarah Sandy set up Groove Connection back in 1990 at 496 Brixton Road London, and soon became recognised as the first Booking Agency for DJ’s. At this time club DJing was a niche pastime, linked to the Disco & Funk movement from the USA, or selectors playing Dub & Reggae on Caribbean Sound Systems on the Underground circuit. The explosion of Acid House Raves & warehouse parties saw a sudden rise in DJ’s mostly from the illegal pirate radio stations being linked in to play at the big raves.Back then in 1989 there were no mobile phones or computers, so all gatherings & raves were spread by word of mouth, and even more so by the Pirate radio stations. The energy & creativity in the early days was palpable, and those of us who experienced this explosion of multicultural youth culture & the lifestyle it offered us all have never lost that same Love for the music that changed our world and built the foundations of the whole Global multi billion £ dance industry that we see today.
