What a blast from the future the Glas song was! Very much in the Euro-pop production style of the mid-1990’s, when we Brits were listening rave, but with far more imaginative and dynamic songwriting chords and melodic performing. Had the vocalist sung in English, you have even assumed the Mesh band member Richard Silverthorn had played a role in the production, so good it is. I’ll research the artist for sure, especially when you consider that (arguably) the best, all-round single track released this year was by a Parisian gentleman called Thierry Noritop (a.k.a. Stereo-In-Solo).

Very few producers and recording artists seem to understand the creative possibilities of recording more than one version of a very good song. And I don’t just mean the opportunity to get it in nightclubs or on DJ mix-sets – longer track running-time simply gives musicians more opportunity to showcase extra ideas, creativity, lyrics and other facets they simply may have under-estimated the potential of when recording a 3-minute song.
Shelter are an exception. The Distant Minds clearly are too, and we should all be very grateful to the likes of Rusty for playing both/more versions of them, like he did on this show.

I listened to a bit of the Johnson Somerset remixes of ‘Big Music’-album material, recorded originally by Simple Minds in 2014, including ‘Midnight Walking’, on Sound_____ a few weeks ago, without realising how good this version was. Minds’ guitarist Charlie Burchill’s guitars are very difficult to reinterpret with – probably the only reason why the band haven’t released a ‘dm: the remixes’-style remix compilation to date. But JS has nailed it with this, if you’re willing to be patient with it. Remixers of the world: Simple Minds are great, so dig out the albums and remind yourselves why!

The show’s second April Towers’ track: ‘Modern Psyche’ was also a pleasure to hear. Always love a little piano-synth performing, but especially with a well thought out and arranged song.

A very rewarding listen to a show I wish I could have taken part in live six week’s ago...

I was so taken away by the track 24:10, that I nearly ordered a pair of suede pixie boots. Fantastic show! I'm on catch-up, but loving it. :)

Some great tunes. Really liked Sector One (The Operation) which I also hear on Colin S's show recently. Alsos hadn't hear Midnight Walking by Simple Minds (rather good), nice to hear Enigma again

Top Notch show Rusty my old son. The Distant Minds Track has the same fantastical DNA as a Paul Oakenfold set opener from his courtyard at Liverpool's Cream club back in the golden age of progressive house 1996 -2002. I need to buy this record more than take my next breath. Magic.
