1992 was the year an 11-year old RNS, born Rick Slater, kicked mainstream music to the curb. The stop and record buttons on his cassette player faded in colour as he stayed up after bedtime to listen to Tim Westwood on Radio 1. Suddenly, his Now and Smash Hits! compilations began to collect dust....
The explosion of the UK Garage movement and rise of the MC in '98 led to Rick's eventual transition from hip hop lover to dance music fan after what many considered "the death of hip hop" in 97/98. Fast forward to 2000 and Rick pursued a certificate in Sound Engineering and Music Business at Kingston University. It was here that he discovered dubstep for the first time with the late night sounds of DJ Hatcha, alongside Stone Cold GX on Flight FM – his love for the sound and the bass stuck.
Striving to be an MC, Rick spent a few years putting pen to paper and honing his skills in local venues and radio stations until finding his feet as a DJ. Going by the name of RNS.
