Richard James Simpson is a veteran of Los Angeles music scene. His first appearance was as a bass player for Invisible Chains, which featured Carla Bozulich. Later, he moved on to vocals and guitar in Teardrain with bass player and co-songwriter Jill Emery of such bands as Hole and Mazzy Star. Within the past two years he has released two solo albums, "Sweet Birds of Youth" and "Deep Dream." The albums feature such notable artists as Joey Burns (Calexico); Don Bolles (The Germs); Dustin Boyer (John Cale); Paul Roessler (The Screamers, Nina Hagen); Jill Emery; and the iconic Geza X. Each album offers an experimental and soulful sound reminiscent of such artist as Bowie, Iggy Pop, The Pixies, P.J. Harvey, and Radiohead. Simpson proves to be capable of re-metabolyzing such a wide range of influences into a consistent personal musical gestalt.
