DJ Psyke, also known as Renier Theart, was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and spent much of his youth in Welkom in the Free State, where his passion for music began. At 16, he started DJing at local parties, playing early electronic acts like Technotronic and Snap. Returning to Cape Town in 1993, he briefly explored the metal scene before a defining night at Nexis in 1994 led him to fully embrace house music. He regularly attended Cape Town’s iconic clubs, including Nexis, G-Spot, Boiler Room, and Fresh. By 1998, he had shifted into Drum & Bass, performing as part of Itchy & Scratchy, before stepping away from the scene. He returned in 2007 via Mutha FM’s Adrian G Show, where he was given the name DJ Psyke. Since then, he has performed at events like Euphoric Universe NYE 2022 and Hidden Leaf: Reality Check.
