Ōtautahi Christchurch, New Zealand
Ray Wenge (When-ghey) is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist, DJ, producer and lover of jazz, funk, soul and world music. He was introduced to electronic music and learnt to mix with vinyl around 2010 whilst at university in the Sheffield [UK], diverting much of his student loan to buy new releases.
Ray was a regular at the city’s abundant underground warehouse parties. Over those years, Ray saw legends such as Octave One, Carl Craig, Dave Clarke and Jeff Mills. He credits Sam Shepherd (Floating Points) as a huge source of inspiration - studying the master at work behind the turntables during marathon sets of house and techno artfully blended with rare soul and samba, never losing the captivation of the crowd.
Ray is now based in Christchurch, NZ.
