Class of 2013 Vintage High School graduate Raja Orr knew what he would be doing after his graduation. Since May, he has been composing a feature length music score to one of his favorite classic silent films "The Phantom Carriage." He knew the Jarvis Conservatory and the Napa Valley Youth Symphony were going to showcase his composition. He also knew it would be performed with a live orchestra playing from the Jarvis Conservatory orchestra pit during the film's exhibition. But what he didn't expect was that he would also get the opportunity to conduct his composition.
Having played the french horn for seven years, part of that time with the Marin Youth Orchestra and now currently in his second year with the Napa Valley Youth Symphony, Raja's refined his creativity by building off the knowledge he has gained from studying with these organizations. Further composition studies with Belinda Reynolds and conducting seminars with Ryan Murray have brought him to where he is now. After writing
