To Tommy Girl, aka Polly Taylor, there is no better rush than the one that comes from improvising in front of a packed dance floor. “It’s very impromptu in that my sets are never planned. There’s definitely something to be said for a practiced performance, but it’s really energizing to just go for it.” If that idea sounds gutsy, it’s even more impressive when you consider Taylor was shy about the idea of spinning publicly from what she felt was a late introduction to the decks. The fact that I was a female in a male dominated industry was also very intimidating. ”
In 2009, she was invited to Ghetto House Radio- FM Syndicated Show on 25 radio stations worldwide. Taylor was the first female Dj to be on GHR. With overwhelming response from listeners, she quickly became a monthly resident dubbed “the princess of ghetto house.”
Because of her early fears about entering the DJ scene, Taylor is happy and proud to be a role model for young girls who follow her lead.
