some haunting atmospheres in this one Patrick, thrown into some daylight by that shard of hope in the closing choral piece.
excellent and looking forward to catching up with your other latest ones. all the Best, papa🙏
I like your description, Papa, and thanks for listening!
Because I read Conrad's Heart of Darkness recently, the opening track has made it for me. Also, are you into Dr. John? When I saw your title I thought almost immediately of Such a Night that Dr. John covered so memorably in The Last Waltz. Greetings...
Greetings to you and thanks for listening! Yes, I’m a big Dr. John listener and maybe that was a subliminal connection - the attraction and rarity of beginning a title with Such. Glad you liked this. I’m busy with family guests but want to listen to your latest soon.
Great sound journey!
Glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for listening!
Loved the drama and beauty of this selection. As LBH said, it sounds like a soundtrack, maybe for some hauntingly beautiful art house film I really need to see
I'm so glad you enjoyed it and got into the soundtrack aspect! Making that film would be quite a challenge!
Really enjoyed this unpredictable and evolving journey. One of those sets that can feel like the soundtrack to an imaginary movie (probably something arthouse about the undead, shot in Eastern European locations in the German expressionist style 😉).
Highlights : all that amazing Bartok choral music, and the second of the Carr/Taylor duets.
Glad you liked this John and thanks for listening! And yes, it's a kind of the-bottom-drops-out soundtrack I guess. That Carr recording was done in Southwark cathedral, which the notes say was Shakespeare's parish church. All the titles are Shakespeare quotes and you can occasionally hear motors or birds in the background. Taylor is a jazz pianist who learned that organ just for the date and they're all first takes!
@pfktoledo Thanks for the footnotes Patrick. I did know John Taylor as a pianist but that duet and his church organ playing was completely new to me.
Interesting that it was recorded at Southwark Cathedral. Know it well. I used to work around the corner from it and spent many a summer lunchbreak in its grounds. And an artist friend called Pippa exhibited in there some years back -

@LordBrettHeadset Interesting looking exhibit - glass feathers. Toledo is a big center for glass art in the U.S. And I'm glad that Southwark recording site brought back memories!
Thank you very much for this wonderful musical journey through different countries (and decades), dear Patrick. Your selection of music is always very educational. Until today, the name László Dobszay was completely unknown to me. Very interesting biography and beautiful music by him, which I heard here in your mix.
PS: Beautiful cover pic, too. Like out of a Béla Tarr movie. 😊
So glad you liked the music and the photo, Andras! I didn't know much about Dobszay but came across his recording of those beautiful Bartok choral pieces, which I hadn't listened to in years, when I was assembling this.
Beautiful session dear Patrick 💢 my favs Dj Shadow, Yasmine Hamdan, and Ian Carr ft. John Taylor 🌟🌟🌟
Glad you enjoyed this, Zvonimir, and thanks for listening! I already had DJ Shadow in an early version of this when I came across your selection in your '96 session. The Yasmine Hamdan is pretty new.
