Blues And Roots Connections, with Paul Long: episode 378

If I didn’t do this show now, then I wouldn’t have done it at all. An impossibly hard programme to make, as I pay tribute to our son Matthew Long, who died on 6th October. I’ll play tracks from his bands Catfish and Matt Long & The Revenant Ones, plus unreleased material from Matt's early bands The Common Collection and Riot Underground. There'll be something from Alice Armstrong, plus collaborations with Matt and Katie Bradley, and between Catfish and our good friends Brave Rival.

The multi award-winning Blues And Roots Connections, with Paul Long is a weekly programme inspired by the blues, but not constrained by it. The show is broadcast every Sunday and Tuesday on www.blues-radio.co.uk and is always on-demand on Mixcloud, in HQ audio.

Paul is Chair of the Independent Blues Broadcasters Association, a board member of the UKBlues Federation, and winner of European Blues Union 'Behind The Scenes' Award for Production 2023.

Hi Paul.to make this programe was so brave, and I am sure so incredibly hard for you. The first time I seen catfish was Upton blues festival,I was blown awayaway with matts Talent. I Followed you ever since. So so sad when I read of matts condition sat in our blues club in Bristol Blues club, with tears in my eyes. I spoke to you in Exeter we talked about influence and I said I thought you had relayed a bit of Pink Floyd, last seen you play in Blackpool.Matt's talent shone through and still does today.
You and Fiona and Sam are so proud and should be .
A truly great talent lost to us all.

Well done Paul for putting this show on. It musty have been very hard. It was well worth the effort as it leaves a fantastic memory of Matt. Love and Best Wishes.

Paul - Thank you so much for doing this. It must have been impossibly tough but many of us will listen and share your pain - but in a most celebratory way, as I'm sure you, Fiona & Sam would wish. It is a very personal and intimate insight. I'm sure many of us have done "Need Your Love" and it was a great way to open your show, going back to the roots. I found it difficult doing my show for Matt some weeks ago and I barely knew him. For you it must have been exponentially hard. Thank you so much and love to you all.

Thought provoking and heartbreaking at the same time. A wonderful tribute to Matt’s career and talent Paul. It was a privilege to play alongside him for all those years and watch in awe at his skill and dexterity with which he made the guitar sing. I will keep those memories with me for ever. Thank you for producing what must have been a very difficult show to produce. Our hearts go out to you and Fiona . Kevin Yates
