What is a makerspace and how does this hands-on learning model help children to think critically, creatively, and work together? In this episode, we discuss how an elementary school in Arlington, Virginia, is designing its makerspace for students and preparing teachers to engage in projects that help children identify solutions, come up with a plan and get feedback about it. In the process, a makerspace gives students the freedom to make mistakes and learn from them. Guests: Jacqueline Firster, a STEM Specialist for K through 12 and Personalized Learning Specialist; Rachel Landry, STEAM Coordinator; and Joel Gildea, Instructional Tech Coordinator at Dr. Charles R. Drew Elementary School.
