As old Miles put it, there are only two kinds of music: the good and the bad.
DJ Open Decks plays music of the good, if not awesome, variety, with a particular disdain for arbitrary boundaries. His roots are in jazz - blues was his mother tongue.
But he fell in love with Brazilian music in graduate school, right before getting infected with the dance music bug (house, techno, drum n'bass, breaks, downtempo, nu jazz, dubstep), and since then has continued to expand his musical horizons.
He currently likes to spin cumbia digital, nu swing and gypsy bangers.

Open Decks loves two musicians above anyone else: John Coltrane, who opened is ears to jazz, and Gilles Peterson, who widened his definitions of it. Thanks for dropping by. Fill your ears and share.
