زوجة النبي ابراهيم"ع" وأمّ إسحق ،
يعتقد بعضهم بأنّهَ عربي مأخوذ من سَرَّة : المرأة التي تُبهِج وتسُر الآخرين ،
وطاقة الريحان ،
أو من سَارَّة : التي تُفرِح الآخرين ، أو التي تُعلم بالسر،
ومنهم من يقول : من السَّأْر والسُّؤرة ، أي : بقيَّة الشيء من الشراب أو الطعام،
وقيل في السريانية بمعنى: أخت أو سيّدة، وفي العبرية: أميرة
وكانت في الأصل تدعى "ساراي" و معناه: المجاهدة.
