NorthEastEnders is the name given to the collective activity undertaken during Andrew Wilson’s 6-month artist residency in the residential neighborhood of Shiledfield in Newcastle upon Tyne.
The residency has been hosted by The Holy Biscuit as part of the Newcastle City Council’s Arts Team’s Artist in Residence and Arts Connect programmes.
Working alongside residents Andrew’s residency adopted the long running TV Soap EastEnders as a playful metaphor to unpick and reflect on the many changes and developments that are taking place in Shieldfield.
The residency closed in March 2019 with the following celebration events:
-Broadcast Bartender: an improvised conversation event between six guest drinkers and one guest bartender.
-NorthEastEnders ‘premiere’: the first public screening of the three short films created by Shieldfield residents.
-Shieldfield on Screen: public screening of an eclectic mix of films that feature the residential neighbourhood of Shieldfield.
