Born in Lincoln 1952. I qualified as a primary school teacher in Derby, but having spent most of my time at college as social secretary, I went into the music business instead. Ran my own record shop (Honky Tonk Records) in Kentish Town, 1978-1982. Also had a couple of labels such as 'Dining Out' and 'Pineapple Products' during the DIY Punk/New Wave era and managed a couple of local bands; The Mysterons and 23 Skiddo. Much fun ensued but not much money!

When this closed I used my considerable skills in how not to run a business into teaching unemployed youngsters how to run theirs in a pioneering self employment project in the Clerkenwell Workshops. Then I went onto do the same thing with migrants at the Refugee Council. Great Fun and great to be around creative people with a bit of get up and go. I learnt a lot from them all.
