I've been getting a lot of Youtube recommendations for these hard dance / 140 techno sets, and I'm not feeling it. I'm stuck inside, in a constant state of lethargy, unable to socialize & go out at night, my conceptions of society are challenged every day and it's exhausting! It's not possible to match that kinda energy, let alone gather it from a genuine place, so Youtube - please stop.
Lately what's really been helping me find balance is classic house: Ron Trent, Kenny Dope, Theo Parrish, Larry Levan... to me, they're reminiscent of a time when everyone understands each other, and the music is a social experience. For this mix, I went around Bandcamp and my hard drive to find that vibe, and this feels pretty good to me. I hope you all can enjoy it the same way I did putting it together.
I used a rotary mixer I had under my desk to mix the tracks. Not as easy to use as the fader-based mixer, but it keeps things fun. Enjoy the tunes!
