Introducing Host Tagging!

Introducing Host Tagging!

by Mixcloud

Hi everyone,

We just launched a brand new feature: Host Tagging!

With this feature you can link one show to multiple profiles.

~~

Do you upload shows mixed or presented by other creators? You can now tag them on your uploads.

First - invite creators to become hosts on your profile by sending them a unique link. This automatically organizes your page by creating a ‘Hosts’ tab. Your listeners can easily sort all your shows by host - no need for manual playlists.

Then - tag them on your shows. Tagging someone on your show sends a notification to their followers and lets them display it on their profile.

Tagging hosts on your shows…
⌛Saves you time organizing your profile
🔎Improves discovery for your content
🔗Builds stronger connections with your DJs
🏅Gives them credit for their work

Anyone on Pro can invite hosts to their profile - but hosts don’t need Pro to accept.

Do you make shows for other creators on Mixcloud? Becoming a host brings an array of benefits.

Once you’re invited as a host, you can claim shows and display them on your profile. You also get an official badge under your profile picture which shows off who you’ve made shows for.

Whenever you claim a show:
👑Your profile is credited on the show page
❗Your followers get a notification
📩You get updates on new chart positions, reposts, favorites and comments
🎞️You can display it on your profile as if you uploaded it yourself
🖥️You can access its stats (Pro only)

Host tagging gives you credit for your work, raises your credibility as a DJ and helps your shows get discovered - while letting you display all your shows in one place.

You need a pro account, you don't appear to have one right now

Mixcloud

Nice 🫰🏼

sarebbe interessante, ma non lavoro per radio ed non ho collegamenti con altri Dj, ho sono ospite di chi vuol "ospitare altri Dj"

Looks great, only too bad the shows also count as published shows on the hosts' profiles. Now my hosts shows are being hidden on their profile because I tagged them on the shows of my channel. Also they can't upload anything themselves anymore.
In the spirit of transparency, you should add this to the articles instead of just saying "hosts don't need pro". People might want to opt for just reposting.

I have a question. What do I do if I own my own online radio station and I dj on my station as well? What do I tag myself?

djnjd

Nice One! 😃
Thx again, Mixcloud Massive Crew!! 👊🏼✨🔥

Glad you're enjoying the new feature!

I've used Host Tagging for two of my uploads and one thing I've noticed is that I no longer receive the daily updates for chart positions for those shows, yet still receive updates for shows I haven't tagged a host. Is this intended to function like that?

Mat

I'll get the team to check this, the expected behaviour is both the station and host get the emails

Need to try ! 💪

Cool feature, but what a convoluted process to use it. At least how it's described in the blog post.

Mixcloud

Hey BChang, thanks for your feedback - is there a particular part of the process that you find most challenging? We'd love to get your direct feedback.

BChang

There are two issues with this feature IMO. One being the nomenclature of "host" is super confusing and the second is the requirement to use the host join url.

Referring to the DJs featured in a particular show as "hosts" is strange. Quite opposite of what you would intuitively expect. The word "host" (to me at least) is more similar to a radio station or curator profile that hosts other artists. Those types of accounts are functionally doing the hosting. The individual DJs that wish to be tagged in a given mix can be called "featured artists" or similar.

The complete user experience could be something like: (Most of which is already in place)
When a radio station/curator posts a mix, they can tag another mixcloud user(s). If another user wasn't tagged at the point of upload, a user should be able to click on the mix that they feel they should be credited for, a request gets sent to the uploader which they can approve or deny, and perhaps have the option to indicate that no one else should be linked to that mix to prevent abuse/spam. Once approved, the requester is then linked to the mix as expected. No referrer url. No need to identify yourself or others as hosts. No need to specify a parent/child relationship. Each show could have a one-to-many Mixcloud account relationship if all parties agree. Simple as that.

First impressions: very good new feature, clearly showing that Mixcloud have taken notice of how some (many?) users use their channels. Until now I've held off doing collabs, on the basis that they *seem* (and it is an assumption) to raise the online profile of the host far more than the creator. The new Hosts feature now seems to balance out the benefits of collabs – it's a win-win. It does seem to be a (considerably) glorified link back to the creator / host, but now it's got the "official" Mixcloud stamp of approval – and having the stats from hosted shows is great. My only concern would be that Mixcloud could become so full of Hosts, that Creators start to play second-fiddle.

Mixcloud

Hi Russell, thanks for your feedback and kind words about the feature. Our aim is to help bridge those connections (that already exist in the real world) between creators on the platform, whether a station and host, or a curator profile who uploads DJ mixes from others. All on our mission to strengthen communities. We've looped your feedback through to our Insights team and appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the feature with us!

Love to hear that it's having a positive impact on your profile and shows already!

Recordbox Obsessions

Great feature and we have already started tagging artist we have collaborated with, and this is a great addition to the feature set to help us give credit and highlight the creators who contributed. Keep up the good work 👌🏼

Mixcloud

Great to hear this guys, and pleased it's already working for you!

DJ SHONUFF

I'm looking forward to trying out the new features to merge with all the other existing tools provided. Thanx 👍🏽

Awesome, let us know how you get on!

Doing this host tag thing already with global soul radio my listeners have gone up 👌🏾👍🏾

Global Soul Radio's profile is looking great and 13 hosts already, great to see!

DEAN CHARLES official

If you want any of this to work , you need a better way of monetising Mixcloud as a platform. There is no incentive to engage a live stream like you can on Twitch. Without viewers , there is an extremely small audience to market to.

Russell Gillman

@DeanCharlesOfficial What's the incentive of engaging a livestream on Twitch? Forgive my ignorance - genuine question. Mixcloud Live user only, and would prefer to stay that way, but do get the impression that other live options attract more users (albeit on unlicensed platforms as far as I'm aware).

Beachy Head Radio

Absolutely.

NOWA

This is really beneficial for those of us that host podcasts on this platform, or for those internet radio stations that want to support their DJs by hosting them on their mix that aired. Loving to see improvements like this. However, a few of us were talking in my stream recently about how we wish we could "host" or "mirror" others streams, in regards to someone on another account hitting the "mirror" button and your live stream feed also shows up on their page for the duration that they want to "host/mirror".

don't understand anything, I read the blog, I don't know what the benefit is, I upload mixes and retro music radio programs, I don't know how this idea benefits what I do
