I would describe my classes as informative, and fun. As a massage therapist of over 10 years, there is also the opportunity to explore an understanding of the physical mechanics of the body, and how yoga arises from this, from the inside out; rather than as an aesthetic art for the external observer.
For me, the spirit of yoga is not something beautiful for the outside onlooker to enjoy, we can go to the Ballet for that – instead there is an opportunity to explore how actions are felt internally in the body, and how that resonates with the heart and mind.
In public classes the asana practice is designed with the needs of the stressed-out, desk-bound, city-living body in mind; they are challenging physically, whilst providing the time to relax, unwind and restore. One of the things which is really important to how I teach is to recognize and work with where we really are, right now - not where we think we are.
