Check The Rhime with General Jimmy (December '20)

Avatar

Check the Rhime focusses on hip-hop music culture since its inception in 1973, from the disco and funk breaks of the seventies up to the leftfield lyrical concepts of now.

It'll run with a slightly lucid interpretation of the genre - as well as obvious boom-bap, music from the likes of D'Angelo and Thundercat might get thrown in too. Anything that shares some form of genealogy and revolves around break-based sampling and/or emceeing.

It's hosted by DJ and journalist General Jimmy, who'll be joined each week by a guest discussing their love of hip-hop. It'll also explore one sample source each episode, looking at the ways in which hip-hop has taken inspiration from it.

This month, it's a hip-hop Christmas with General Jimmy! Tune in for some spicy jams, plus a phone call with his first ever guest, Henry Lewis from Sauce. Full bio & track-list: https://tinyurl.com/uaakjlw
