Harsh winds whip at my face. My beak sharpened, feathers preened, talons ready, I cut through the winds' feeble attempts to redirect my momentum. My flight is crisp, light as the air itself, But my heart is unusually heavy; Fore I realize today that I'm truly alone on this journey to the summit.
In my early days as a hatchling, I was nested, fed, safe; yet every passing day I cried for freedom. To spread my wings with no regard for those in my way.
Once my wings matured, I strained, stretched and leapt. Free-falling, I beat against the threatening descent. I catch a fortunate current and ride it, summer's sol washing my down to a downy white. Two summers, I rode that seemingly infinite current, never landing even a single time, never looking back to the nest I once called home.
