RECORD BREAKER

RECORD BREAKER

Avatar

This is just a few 45's I've bought recently but I wanted to highlight the track "Record Breaker" by Sir Scorcher & The Black Emeralds because to most ears this would sound like prime Studio One material circa late 68 - early 69, except it's actually a 2013 release - possibly the most authentic attempt at recreating the classic early Reggae sound. It's on the Jan Disc label and even looks like an old UK release, complete with push out centre. Meanwhile, The Allentons Rocksteady tune, "Dreams", is also a contemporary release which brilliantly echoes the late Rocksteady period. Also worth noting is the semi-instrumental version of "The Israelites", lots of these previously unissued backing tracks of old classics are sneaking out on Beverleys reissues.

Tracklist

Playing tracks by The Crystalites, JOHNNY MELODY, Hopeton Lewis, Noel Brown, Beverleys All Stars and more.

Pete you are more than welcome. You and I were born in the same year. When my parents arrived from Jamaica to Brixton this music just permeated the air. We then moved to Sheffield and as a toddler I remember the house parties and home made patties and carrot juice. We were poor but we were in heaven. The roots style of the seventies was a natural progression everything has context. Just like Northern soul being up North. Mind you there doesn't seem to be much Northern in northern soul nowadays... Northern soul dance lessons being given on soul weekenders which is quite hilarious from what I've seen.

Rest assured your mixes are played all day long in my bike/cafe shop

What do I think ? whoever the menthol fairy in may is he certainly knows this particular genre of music. No doubt as a result of many years maturing a taste that only comes from being with the elders.
I (I being of no consequence) thoroughly recommend this reggae rugie mix if you want to truly grind your waste out of the system.

many thanks for an awesome entertaining piece of DJaying....

Brenton thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you enjoy the mixes, I have always ploughed my own furrow when it came to Reggae, I started to love it in 1969-70 at the age of 9, by the age of 13 I had managed to get some Blue Beat, Trojan etc 45's, but nobody and I mean nobody from my peer group liked it, but when I got heavily into soul at the age of 15 I went off Reggae somewhat as I didn't like - and still don't like - the Roots style music. I never stopped buying the classic singles though, right through the 80's, 90's up to now.
