The Martínez Zárate Quartet was formed while working to revive ancient musical techniques which brought togheter families of instruments in chamber ensembles. The public was thus given the opportunity to get in touch with a different repertoire: rare, interesting and artistic. The research work needed was intense; archives, libraries and other sources of information were consulted systematically. This work led to a new sound display using guitars tuned differently enabling the quartet to increase and expand their repertoire finding new possibilities unknown until then.
The important and unique reception the Martínez Zárate Quartet received, encouraged a number of contemporary composers such as: Carlos Guastavino, Angel Lasala, Eduardo Grau, Jorge Tsilicas, Maximo Pujol , Guido Santórsola among others to compose works meant for this ensemble.
The "Martínez Zárate" Guitar Quartet has performed numerous recitals and concerts with orchestra in Argenti
