I started to dj at 41, im now 46. i used to manage house clubs back in the mid 90s. it was always about the music. I always want to be able to dj, but never got round to it, but i have now! (sort of) im not sure how i ever filled my time in the past. i love It, i always dreamed about being able to put a set together, only using vinyl. cos to me, ( past dinosaur that i am) thats djing, thats how i wanted to do it..... but things have moved on, so i wanted to utilise modern tech, ( of the dvs variety), but really wanted to feel like i was djing vinyl. so i spent 3years using the standard dvs setups we all use. But i did not feel like i was a dj in my eyes, to much help, effects.......... just stuff getting in the way of the music.
So ive made a dvs system of my own. it uses a £30 raspberry pi3 computer, a touch screen, a usb stick for music, and 2 serato timecode vinyls. Thats it. no bells no whistles, just me and the music. I now feel connected to what i play.
